About Karen & Jim

We have shared a passion for travel for over twenty years.  In 2005, we combined that passion with our love of photography to create McCollum Photography.

Jim is self-taught and has been taking pictures for over 40 years.  Karen graduated from the College of DuPage in 2005 with a Certificate of Photography Technology.

Specializing in fine art photography, we travel the world taking photographs that capture the subtle nuances of the towns that we visit.  Our current body of work includes images from 14 countries with our most recent images being from the "John Lennon Wall" in Prague.

Our work is focused (no pun intended!) on the intimate details.  When choosing a subject or theme, we usually let the landscape lead us where it will - though we also look for specific things.  Unique shapes, textures and colors either manmade or natural always attract us.  We love to look for landscapes that have a sense of movement in them - a curving river or a winding staircase composed in a way that brings the viewer into the scene.

Our work is digitally produced in our home studio using Epson Pro3800 and Pro7600 printers on heavy weight specialty photo paper with archival quality ultra-chrome inks.  Each image is then dry mounted and matted using 100% acid free archival quality matte board.  Framed pieces are set behind conservation clear UV glass.

From March through December, you'll find us exhibiting our work at fine art festivals throughout the Chicagoland area.

We have participated in solo and group shows and have won several awards from Award of Merit to Best In Category.  Our images have been purchased by individuals throughout the United States and Canada as well as Italy, Norway, Belgium, France and Japan.  Jim has been published in the 2007 and 2008 Photographer's Forum Best of Photography Annual.  Karen has been published in the 2009 Photographer's Forum Best of Photography Annual.
